International Workshop “Identity in Creative Leisure Kazakhstan” Held at IEC

From April 9 to 11, 2026, the International Educational Corporation (KazGASA) hosted the international research workshop “Identity in Creative Leisure Kazakhstan,” dedicated to exploring the creative and cultural spaces of the city of Almaty.

The project was implemented by the Dutch architectural bureau IDENTITY.IN (Netherlands) with the participation of KazGASA, the GOROZHANYM Foundation, and the governmental organization ALMATY CREATIVE, with support from the Creative Industries Fund NL (Netherlands).

The workshop was organized by architect and researcher Alexey Boev, head of the architectural research bureau IDENTITY.IN and founder of the independent platform VISOTA, which specializes in cultural infrastructure, social identity, and public architecture.

The workshop program included lectures and master classes by experts, focusing on modern approaches to studying the urban environment and shaping spatial identity.

Over three days, 12 teams (40 students and 8 curators) from 5 universities conducted field research at twelve urban infrastructure sites, created presentation materials in the form of collages, and presented their findings during the final presentation.

During the workshop, participants conducted observations, interviews, and urban analysis, developing their own understanding of creative leisure and the urban identity of Almaty.

The workshop became part of the ongoing development of international cooperation and the integration of modern research approaches into the educational process at IEC (KazGASA).
