On November 26, 2025, the School of Architecture of the International Educational Corporation (KazGASA) held the official opening ceremony of a classroom dedicated to the outstanding Kazakh architect, People’s Architect of the USSR, Honored Architect of the Kazakh SSR, and laureate of the USSR State Prize – Kaldybai Montakhaev.
The ceremony was led by Manas Khasenov, Dean of the School of Architecture. The event was attended by representatives of the sponsoring organizations – the KazGOR Project Academy and JSC AlmatygiproGor – as well as the architect’s spouse, Zhibek Ramazankyzy. Participants highlighted the significance of the event and emphasized Montakhaev’s invaluable contribution to the development of national architecture.
Kaldybai Montakhaev is one of the key figures in the history of Kazakhstani architecture. His creative legacy is distinguished by national identity, bold design concepts, and profound artistic vision. From a young age, he established himself as an innovator and forward-thinking architect whose work shaped the architectural landscape of Almaty and Astana.
The opening of the Kaldybai Montakhaev Classroom at the IEC (KazGASA) aims to honor the memory of the distinguished architect and inspire future generations of students. His legacy continues to live on through the works of his students and followers.
The initiative to commemorate prominent Soviet and Kazakh architects by naming classrooms at the School of Architecture will continue on a regular basis.
