Students of the IEC visited the construction site of the “Kalkaman” metro station

Students of the International Educational Corporation (KazGASA) visited the construction site of the “Kalkaman” metro station.

The general contractor for the project is BCN Group LLP (Bazis Construction). During the tour, future architects and engineers learned about the key stages of implementing one of Almaty’s largest infrastructure projects. In the left tunnel, which is 1,591 meters long, the installation of “silent” rails using continuous welding technology is nearing completion. In the right tunnel, about 400 meters remain to be excavated, after which track works will begin. Both tunnels will connect the existing “B. Momyshuly” station with the new “Kalkaman” station. At the station itself, monolithic works are nearing completion, while finishing and engineering installation works are actively underway.

BCN Group won the tender in 2020 for the construction of the third launch complex of the Almaty Metro. In 2021, the customer adjusted the route to extend the line to the future “Barlyk” station. During the update of design and cost documentation carried out by Metoproject LLP, tunneling works were temporarily suspended and later resumed in May 2023 after financing was received.

Construction of the “Kalkaman” station officially began in April 2025, following the full clearance of the site. According to regulations, the project implementation period is set for 36 months, but BCN Group plans to complete construction in 29 months, with the station itself to be built in 14 months instead of the planned 24. Commissioning of the facility is scheduled for the first half of 2026.

The visit to the construction site allowed KazGASA students to witness how theoretical knowledge is translated into real engineering solutions.
