On January 21, 2026, the International Educational Corporation (KazGASA) hosted a meeting between the leadership of the Union of Architects of Kazakhstan and faculty members and students of the School of Architecture, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the professional creative union.
The event was attended by the President of the Union of Architects of Kazakhstan, Gabit Sadyrbayev, Vice Presidents Arkenzhan Mametov and Serik Musin, as well as architect Askar Ryspayev. In their speeches, the guests shared their experience in implementing major architectural and urban planning projects and highlighted key challenges facing contemporary architecture in Kazakhstan along with possible solutions.
Gabit Sadyrbayev spoke about the history of the establishment of the Union of Architects of Kazakhstan in March 1936, the contribution of architects and engineers to the country’s socio-economic development, and the main tasks facing the professional community and architectural education today. Special attention was given to the Union’s international activities, the importance of enhancing the status of the architectural profession, and the involvement of young specialists. Plans for anniversary events in 2026 were also presented, including a scientific conference, exhibitions of architectural achievements and diploma projects, and the publication of commemorative editions.
Arkenzhan Mametov emphasized the importance of preserving professional traditions laid down by the founders of Kazakhstan’s architecture and encouraged students to actively participate in national and international competitions. Serik Musin highlighted the universal nature of the architectural profession, the significance of engineering training, and shared best practices in professional development for young specialists within architectural firms.
During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the professional experience of leading architects-authors of large-scale projects and heads of architectural companies.
All invited guests are graduates of the first architectural faculty in Kazakhstan, the successor of which is the School of Architecture of IEC (KazGASA). The faculty was founded in 1961 by architect Toleu Bassenov as part of KazPTI and in 1980 was transformed into the country’s first specialized architectural and construction university-AASI, later renamed KazGASA.
