On October 17, 2025, Madi Aldabergenov, Advisor to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the International Educational Corporation (KazGASA) for International Cooperation and Innovations, held a meeting with Guillem Camprodon, General Director of Fab Lab Barcelona.
As part of the visit, a tour was conducted of Fab Lab Barcelona, one of Europe’s leading digital fabrication laboratories, founded under the auspices of MIT in 2007. The laboratory operates under the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and integrates research, education, and engineering activities.
Today, Fab Lab Barcelona implements programs in digital fabrication, sustainable design, and the architecture of the future, including world-renowned international courses such as Master in Design for Emergent Futures (MDEF), Fab Academy BCN, and Fab Learning Academy. The lab develops innovative projects ranging from 3D printing of buildings using recycled materials to experiments with new types of biomaterials. It is equipped with workshops for wood, plastic, and metal work and serves as a hub for engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs engaged in sustainable technologies.
During the meeting, Guillem Camprodon presented the development strategy of Fab Lab Barcelona, aimed at expanding international cooperation and promoting the global Fab Lab network as a platform for education and innovation.
Madi Aldabergenov noted that within the structure of the International Educational Corporation, there are already three Fab Labs in operation – Fab Lab KazGASA, Fab Lab of the KazGASA School, and Fab Lab of the KAU School, all of which are actively developing. This year, Fab Lab KazGASA nearly doubled its space and officially joined the global Fab Lab community.
The parties discussed prospects for further collaboration – from joint educational programs to the development of new Fab Lab formats within the planned Academic City campus in Almaty.
